The Bigger Picture – Idea

I have decided that I love the brown paper lunch sacks. You can use them for so many things. For this object lesson all you need is scraps of paper, pens or pencils, and one brown paper bag per child.

Have the children write down things that are important to them on the scraps of paper. For example mom, dad, house, clothes, food, pets, and toys. (You will be surprised with what they come up with.) As they write the information down have them place the paper in the bag.

Then give them different scenarios (tornados, earthquakes, etc.) and have them pull one or any number of pieces of paper from the bag. Tell them that what they pulled out is what they lost. Ask them how that made them feel and have them say a prayer for someone who has gone through the same thing.
