In It Not Of It

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” (1 Peter 2:9)

This is a very important concept for children to understand. As they get older school and friends can become more influential than their parents or church. Because of this it is important for children to understand their faith and the reasons they do certain things. An important element to this concept is that we live in the world but we are not supposed to be like it. “In it not of it.”

There are multiple scriptures that back up this concept. Many times Jesus taught that you cannot love the world or the things of it and be truly in love with Him. When this was taught recently at a local kids prayer group I was surprised (in a good way) how well the kids understood this concept. They understood that by acting in a way that is pleasing to God they will have more opportunities to tell others about God’s love. It is my prayer that this will spread to other kids prayer groups. If so the strength of the newest ranks in God’s army will be unmatched.
