If My People…

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. “ 2 Chronicle 7:14

People defined by www.dictionary.com is: persons, whether men, women, or children, considered as numerable individuals forming a group. I find it interesting that children are included in this definition yet many times we are afraid to have children gather to pray for the problems and issues in our countries. This is not a time to completely shelter children from the problems society has. We should be careful as to how we share the problems and make it appropriate for the ages involved but even young children can pray for the country. Most countries around the world have major economical, ethical, and moral problems. You can explain each of these situations in a kid friendly way or use Bible stories that parallel the situations and still allow a way for the kids to pray for your country.

Another concept to think about: This scripture says I will heal your land. Does your land have to only mean the country you are living in? Psalm 2:8 says that God will give us the nations as our inheritance. The way I read that means that my land can be the USA where I live or it can also be a nation far from where I am. The key is to seek God’s face and to be humble.

If you are reading this article chances are you are already teaching kids how to seek God’s face. Once you start a relationship with God it is easy to seek His face because that is something you long to do. The same holds true for children. Being humble is something a little harder to do. In this scripture humble is used as a verb meaning to become meek or to come under submission. If we teach the children to continually submit themselves to God they will learn how to be humble. If children can learn how to live 2 Chronicles 7:14 then their prayers may be the one that heals the land.
