January 6th is the start
date for the 30 Days of Prayer. This is a time when our
churches are joined together in an united effort to pray
for world and each other. It is easy to get adults involved
but have you wondered about how to involve your
children? This is a great time get kids involved in
prayer. Below you will find some suggestions about how
to include your children in the 30 Days of Prayer.
Week one:
“I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh” (Acts
2:17) God’s promises are sure but they are prayed into
fulfillment. In one accord, let us pray and fast this
week for an outpouring of the Holy Ghost.
- Discuss Acts 2
with your kids. Act out the story using paper flames
and portable fans. Give one flame to each kid. Have
them all begin to pray together. At whatever time
you decide turn on portable fans and have the kids
jump up and hold the flames over their heads as they
worship.
- Remind the kids
that all flesh means them too. Joel 2:28
- Pray for people in
the world especially in the 10/40 Window who have
never heard about the Holy Ghost.
Week two:
It was said of Jesus, “… his word was with power.”
(Luke 4:32) This same power now works in us. In one
accord let us pray this week for our pastors and
preachers to be anointed to preach the Word with power.
- Pray for your
pastor. Contact your pastoral staff and ask for
prayer requests.
- Pray for the
churches to the north, south, east and west of you.
- Pray for
missionaries, aim workers, home missionaries and
evangelists your church supports.
Week Three:
It was said of the early church they went everywhere
preaching the Word. (Acts 8:4) In one accord let us pray
for empowered witnessing among the saints.
- Discuss ways that
God gives us power to witness. We receive boldness
with the Holy Spirit.
- Have the kids get
quiet and ask God who they need to witness to.
- Take the kids on a
modified prayer walk. Go around your
neighborhood and stop at peoples houses and ask to
pray with them.
Week Four:
In Acts 8 we find the record of a city being stirred
by the preaching of Philip, “so that with one accord the
people gave heed and there was great joy in the city.”
In one accord let us pray for a Holy Ghost impact on our
cities and communities.
- Take the kids to a
prayer walk around your city or community’s City
Hall, police, and fire stations.
- Contact your mayor
and city council to ask for prayer requests. Even if
you do not receive requests have your kids pray for
city officials and send them a card to let them you
prayed.
- Get a map of your
community and use a flashlight to pray that your
church will be a light in the community.
