The first time I heard of
a soul tree was from a kids prayer group in Lee's
Summit, MO. They put their tree together by using
plaster of paris, a plastic bucket, and bare tree
branch. Using old tennis shoes, they wrote the name of
the person who needed salvation on the sole of the shoe
and hung it from the tree. After the person received
salvation they replaced the shoe with a piece of paper
shaped like an apple with the name on it.
More recently Shelley Hunt,
a kids prayer leader in Bridgeton, MO, had her kids
prayer group make their own soul trees. She traced the
outline of a toy soldier's boot on a piece of paper and
provided green and brown construction paper for the
tree. Each child made a tree and then spent their quiet
time asking God who they should put on the soles. After
the quiet time the kids cut out the paper with the soles
and glued them to their trees. After a time of prayer
the trees were taped to the door in their prayer room so
that the kids can pray for these souls anytime. |
