A couple of years ago
there were two posters out about the names of God. One
was for the Old Testament and the other was the Names of
Jesus. Our kids prayer group had these two posters
laminated back to back so that one side was the names of
God and the other was the Names of Jesus. We did this
while we were discussing the Old Testament names of God
but when we finished we put the poster in our closet and
forgot about it for a while.
Until one week I was out of town and the other kids
prayer leader started teaching about the names of God
from the Old Testament. The kids in our group really
enjoyed learning about the names so we decided to teach
about the names of Jesus also. We made coloring pages
for each name and allowed the kids to color while we
related the story to the kids about each name. This also
helped teach some very good principles. We explained
that sometimes to understand what one scripture says you
need to read the scripture before and after. We were
also able to explain about the prophets and why they
knew some of the names that Jesus would be called.
A few weeks after we finished learning all the names of
God and all the names of Jesus from the Bible we had a
listening time for a man and his wife from our church.
He is heading to Iraq and while we were listening to
know what to pray for several kids saw Jehovah Rophe and
Emmanuel. Because they had learned what those names
meant they were able to pray exactly what God wanted
them to for this husband and wife.
