There
are a few curricula out there that may be a help
to you in developing a strategy for kids prayer
ministry.
For
Starters...Growing Up Prayerful (order
here)
This curriculum, featured in our curriculum listing, is a great
asset to help you get a kids prayer ministry
started. It is a how-to manual with lesson
plans. It will give you
everything you need to determine what kind of
children's prayer ministry is right for your
church. It includes curriculum, a set of THUMB
prayer cards (pray for 10x40 Window), and a
starter set of PrayKids! Magazine. An
extra two pieces to invest in to round out this
curriculum would be the "Window
on the World" book and a beachball or
squishy globe.
Praying
Scripture...Shekinah Kids Revolution (order
here)
M'Linda Barnes taught kids to pray from curriculum that didn't work
for a year before developing one of the most
powerful ways to teach kids to pray Scripture
back to God. With the help of her students, she
designed a curriculum that was full of exciting
ways to learn. There are over 125 verses
condensed into two or three sentence prayers for
seven topics (faith, power, healing, offering,
adoration, blessing, and salvation). These
topics are color coded and contain keywords to
help right or left-brained students succeed. The
Scripture prayer cards come laminated with a
strong coating and are ready to be cut apart and
used immediately.
The curriculum is student-driven. Students keep track of their own
points for every Scripture card learned and they
get bonus points for working with a friend for
their review and memorizing. It is also the
students who track their progress by stamping
their points on a chart. The trainer's role is
to facilitate their learning and comprehension.
Also, the trainer can initiate fun games (like
"hang de-mon") and others that evolve from input
from students. Awards/privileges are given to
those who earn the most points.
The curriculum is being revised to make is easier to comprehend when reading
through all the possible combinations of
activities, but the gist is: 1) kids memorize
Scripture prayer cards and track points (it can
get noisy and somewhat disorganized), 2) kids
learn to work together, freeing up the trainer
to monitor the class and facilitate learning, 3)
kids are given time outside the class to
demonstrate what they are learning (go into
other classes or "big church" to pray for
needs), and 4) have fun with games. One of the
favorite parts is practicing with a mic.
This is a prayer leadership training course. It can be
adapted for any age group, but was designed
specifically for middle/upper elementary. This
curriculum is also featured on our curriculum
listing.
Spiritual
Growth...School of the Holy Spirit (order
here)
This curriculum, featured in our curriculum listing, is an
excellent resource for spiritual training and
growth in kids. It weaves information through
the use of introductions, reviews, drills,
object lessons, skits, and demonstration for
each lesson. Kids actually learn to hear the
voice of God and then are given opportunity to
respond in obedience. This curriculum is about
digging beneath the surface to give kids meat of
the Word concerning the Holy Spirit.
Topics covered include:
The Natural World vs. the Spirit World
God Has a Still, Small Voice
Red Light, Green Light
