What do kids bring to Kingdom Praying that adults and youth could benefit from in a mixed generational setting? Worship and intercession. Case in point, at the recent Summons to Sacrifice prayer gathering, 60 children from across North America came together to pray and learn new ways to impact “The Kingdom.” Their prayer focus was on China this year and with every new prayer tool they discovered new ways to direct prayer toward 1.3 billion souls. Amidst the lanterns, flashlights, mandarin hats, and umbrellas, all reminders to pray for China, they also experienced several ways to pray together in a mixed generational setting for specific needs. During this meeting, they also ventured to pray together for a situation in Zimbabwe, Africa; within hours they received word that their prayers had been answered.
When adults, youth and kids come together to pray for the kingdom, each contributes to the whole in unity. Over the years we have done a good job of separating the generations. We have prayer meetings that are run by adults for adults or by the youth staff for young people, and if a local church is blessed, kids prayer is available for kids. When was the last time your church gathered the generations together to share their methods and unite their focus for the kingdom in one place? As an adult, how many kids prayer tools do you know how to use? As a teen, can you respectfully pray in a group in adults or children?
This concept of praying together is becoming more important because of Scripture and the hunger in younger generations for inclusion. Joel 2:28 foretells of generations working together, each doing their part, as God pours out His Spirit upon all flesh, a kingdom priority. Psalm 8:2 teaches that “You have taught children and nursing infants to give you praise. They silence your enemies who were seeking revenge.” When God’s enemies are silenced by children who praise Jesus, could it be possible that the work of intercessors (of all ages) would be quicker, and more direct? Could it be possible that when God’s enemies are silenced His work gets done on earth as it is in heaven?
We may never know until we take the plunge to expand the horizon of kingdom praying beyond what we first learned nearly one year ago in this very publication.
Take Kingdom Praying to the next level! Kingdom praying by all generations for all generations.
