Drugs, violence, teen
pregnancy, school shootings, bullying, abuse... these
are some of the reasons why Calvary United
Pentecostal Church of Jonesboro, AR loaded onto
their buses and church van and went to their local
schools to pray on Friday, August 14, 2009.
In preparation for
this event we sent letters to the school
superintendents and principles informing them of our
intentions. Approximately 50 church members,
including men, women, teenagers and children joined
together for a night of prayer, meeting at 16 school
campuses and praying for the superintendents,
principles, school boards, teachers, supporting
staff and students of each particular school district and local school. We prayed that the
administrative staff would be God-focused as they
enforced new school policies and that Godly
influences would reign in their lives. We prayed
that every teacher would have wisdom and protection
each day. Prayer was made for every student to have
right attitudes and a willingness to learn and for
their daily protection. We prayed for the anointing
of God to cover every person who walked onto the
school campuses and that revival would break out out
in every school. We laid hands upon our own
“Calvary’s Kids” who attended these schools praying
for them to have boldness to witness on their
campuses. Yellow ribbons were tied on the flag poles
after the conclusion of prayer, stating that the
campus had been prayed for by Calvary UPC.
Standing at the flag
pole praying brought on the attention of many who
drove by in their cars, and even a policeman stopped
to see what we were doing. We were given the
opportunity to be a witness to him. He agreed that
prayer was needed and encouraged us to keep up the
good work. We know that God heard our prayers and
that He has great things in store for the city of
Jonesboro. Our prayer is “God, let it rain. Let
the power of Your Spirit rain down upon our city and
upon our schools.”
