ALL NIGHT KIDS PRAYER MEETING

Yes, you read it right, "All night kids prayer meeting." All night as in nine hours from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. This year 33 kids ages 5-12 and 5 adults came together. We prayed for the world and the local community. By morning 17 kids and all 5 adults were still awake. When you're ready to step up to do something a little more challenging, this is something to experience. The kids will do better than you think...and everyone will go home in one mind: taking a long nap. :)

If you think you are ready for an all night prayer meeting, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. You have to WANT to do it.
  2. You need to have a focus to answer, "Why are we doing this?"
  3. Get a clear plan from the Lord. You may find it easy to incorporate prayer focuses from current world affairs.
  4. Divide your night into segments, focusing on topics or locations. To make it easier, assign leaders for each segment beforehand. As much as possible, include a child to lead with each adult.
  5. Get the right help - don't try to do it, arranging everything yourself. You need someone who's job it is to assist you in all areas (prep and the event).
  6. Begin prayer sessions with those who will work with you to develop "agreement".
  7. Though your target audience is kids, make the prayer meeting a mixture of age groups (invite youth and adults to come too - if nothing else, to help and lead). Have something for each age group mixed in through the ight.
  8. If at all possible, have a committed worship team/person that will stay with you throughout the night to flow with you as the event progresses. Use pre-selected music and some spontaneous music...as well as live/pre-recorded music.
  9. Use lots of celebration time accompanied by music after each prayer segment.
  10. You don't necessarily need "snacks." Kids will stay busy without them. However, if they know there is a snack available, most will want to stop for a break.

Download our loose schedule here. We didn't get to everything on the list and
added a topic towards the morning (noted on the schedule). It was a blast!
