One thing that is
very important in kids prayer is making sure kids have
information so they can pray with clear
direction. That is why it is good to have intercession
sheets or pictures to help kids pray for a kingdom need.
Once kids realize how much more their prayers are on
target because of having more information they will
began to seek information on their own about things that
God lays on their hearts to pray for.
I met a girl this
summer
that has a burden for child soldiers. Before I
could mention some of the resources I knew about, she
was telling
me things that I had not learned yet. Due to her burden
and the information she had gathered on her own she was
able to teach 820 children about child soldiers and lead
them in prayer.
In my hunger to provide
my kids prayer group with information I have come to
realize that many times
I bring to them things that are on my heart instead of
theirs. A few months ago I asked the kids what parts of
the world they wanted to learn more about so they could
pray for them. I was shocked by their answers because
they were different than what I had anticipated.
I have learned
that even young children have things that they want to
pray for that have nothing to do with others desires. I
can look back at my childhood and see that the places
and people I have a burden for started when I was very
young. This makes complete sense to me because of what
God said in Jeremiah 1:5 (NLT) "I knew you before I
formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I
set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to
the nations." God places things in our lives before
we were even born so that we will be able to fulfill His
will. So in an attempt to get to know what the kids I
work with every week have a burden for I came up with a
questionnaire to fill out. It has some questions that
may seem silly but I believe that as the children get
older the answer to some of the silly questions will
become the key to keep the kids on target.
