At the annual
National Church Prayer Leaders meeting in late June,
I was encouraged and excited by what I saw and heard
from the leadership of the global prayer movement. There
is a real hunger for transformation in our cities,
nation, and the world. The push wasn't for more methods,
but for a revelation of Jesus and a return to
persevering, united prayer. The keynote speakers were
right for the time, and the workshops, close to 100 of
them, were specifically targeted to help leaders with
their personal prayer lives, church prayer meetings,
missions vision, and kids prayer.
Of course,
the last category, kids prayer, caught my attention.
I didn't have much of a chance to go to more than one of
the kids prayer track sessions but it was awesome. (See
this month's idea -
Pebbles &
Stones). If you are interested in any of these
topics, you can order tapes from the workshops by
calling 800-217-5200 (at the end of July).
Kidsprayer.com was also asked to do a special session on
"Shekinah Kids: - Teaching kids to pray the Word." There
was a good bit of interest in the kids prayer
workshops...I hope it grows and blossoms over the next
12 months until the next conference, PrayerQuake (June
2006-Phoenix, AZ).
For me, there
were two sessions that truly gripped me.
1) We
need to lead people into prayer, so that we can
lead them in prayer. This is true of kids
too. I learned that a Levite is an example of a real
prayer leader. If you are interested, you may view my
notes from this session by David Bryant - a long-time
leader of the global prayer movement. (Notes posted
soon)
2)
Highlight of the kids prayer movement that began in
1995. In the commitment session, the last meeting of
the conference, Chery Sacks, the city prayer leader for
the Phoenix area (Bridge Builders), told about her
perspective on the kids prayer sessions that broke out
in Seoul Korea in 1995. Her 13 year old daughter was one
of the 40 child delegates sent from nations around the
world. They prayed for hours without realizing it and
birthed the kids prayer movement in a burst of energy.
The Ebola virus that was striking people down in Africa
at the time was suddenly stopped in its tracks because
of their persistent prayer.
Ebola virus? Yes, there was an epidemic that had all of the world's
health organizations holding their breath. During a
prayer session that lasted for hours, a girl saw a pit
and skinny people were just walking into it. After
sharing the vision, it was the kids who understood what
it meant. They began praying with fervor for the virus
to stop in its tracks and by the time the conference was
over, there were reports in major newspapers that much
to everyone's surprise the virus had stopped spreading.
You may
want to make plans to attend the conference next year in
Phoenix. Being around hundreds of praying people
is truly a breath of fresh air. |
